Songoftheday 2/10/19 - Singin a sweet song of who and where I belong, I see a vision of a love thats more than strong...

"Better Than You" - Lisa Keith
from the album Walkin' In The Sun (1993)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #36 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 3

Today's song of the day comes from singer Lisa Keith, who started out as backup for other more famous acts, most prominently providing the uncredited lead vocals on Herb Alpert's ballad "Making Love In The Rain" in the fall of 1987. The producers of that track, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, signed her on to their label Perspective, where she recorded her debut (and sole) album Walkin' On The Sun. The lead single to the record, "Better Than You", is a sunny, bright adult-pop song in the mold of fellow Christian-pop ladies Amy Grant and Kathy Troccoli. Written by Lisa with Keith Thomas, the song was a hit with "easy listening" stations...

"Better Than You" became Lisa's first (credited) and only top-40 pop hit in November of 1993. The song also climbed to #29 on Billboard magazine's Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio format chart, spending 23 weeks on the list. Internationally, the song made it to #10 in Norway,  scaled to #14 in Canada, and popped into the top-40 in Sweden at #39. A second release from the album, "I'm In Love", was a minor hit in the U.S. (#84) and Canada (#80). After this album, she retreated back into back-up singing for gospel and Christian acts.
