Songoftheday 6/11/21 - I'm so confused I don't know what to do, but I gotta be a woman I gotta get over you...
"Movin' On" - Mya featuring Silkk The Shocker
from the album Mya (1998)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #34 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 10
Today's song of the day comes from singer Mya, who had scored a top ten pop/R&B hit with her debut release "It's All About Me" in the spring of 1998. She also landed in the pop top-40 with her featured spot on Pras Michel's Bulworth hit "Ghetto Supastar" that summer. For the second release from her self-titled debut album the kiss-off track "Movin' On" was chosen. An uptempo song about finding out her man is cheating on her, and isn't planning on sticking around to give him another chance. Rapper Silkk The Shocker, Master P's brother, opens and provides the bridge to the record. After appearing on Master P's "Goodbye To My Homies", "Make Em Say Uhhh!", and "I Miss My Homies", as well as on Montell Jordan's #2 hit "Let's Ride", this record gives Silkk his best showcase so far, as he provides an alternative to her straying loser. The music video casts them both in high school, as Mya's supastar athlete boyfriend strays...
"Movin' On" became Mya's third top-40 pop hit in September of 1998. The song also climbed to #4 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart, her third top ten in a row. The dance remixes of the track, done by Ralphi Rosario and Fernando Garibay, helped it crest at #11 on the Dance Club Play chart. Internationally, the single also went to #11 in New Zealand. Both Mya and Silkk will be on this series again.
