Songoftheday 6/7/21 -Girl I been waiting on this day bet you thought you'd never hear me say, you been creepin' around all over town been layin' it down been messin' around...

"Thinkin' Bout It" - Gerald Levert
from the album Love & Consequences (1998)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #12 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 9

Today's song of the day comes from the late R&B singer/songwriter/producer Gerald Levert, who after landing his second solo-billed top-40 hit in the autumn of 1997 with "I'd Give Anything", joined up with Keith Sweat and Johnny Gill in the soul supergroup LSG for the top ten smash "My Body" at the end of that year. In 1998, Levert returned with his third solo set Love & Consequences. The lead single was "Thinkin' Bout It", written by producer Darrell Allamby, Antoinette Robinson, and Lincoln Browder, aka "Link", who had scored a top-40 hit of his own that year with "Whatcha Gonna Do". In this song, Gerald confronts his girlfriend who he's caught cheating on him, with the bitterness and anger that had pervaded a lot of the R&B girl-group songs of the same theme, though in this case Levert is giving her another chance instead of just cutting loose. I don't predict a good outcome from that, but he pours his heart out on the track...

"Thinkin' Bout It" became Gerald's third solo top-40 pop hit in September of 1998. The song also spent five weeks at #2 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart. Internationally, the single was a minor hit in the UK at #77. The Love & Consequences album, released in July of that year, went to #17 on the Billboard 200 sales tally, and #2 on the R&B specific albums chart, going on to sell over a million copies. Gerald will return to this series.
