Songoftheday 6/13/21 -Tell me what kind of superman would take you in his bedroom, and hit you with some front back and side to side like hydraulics on a stormy night...

"Splackavellie" - Pressha
from the album Don't Get It Twisted (1998)
Billboard Hot 100 peak; #27 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 10

Today's song of the day comes from R&B singer  David "Pressha" Jones, who grew up in South Carolina before starting his music career. Signed to Babyface and L.A. Reid's LaFace label through the manager Tony Mercedes' imprint, Pressha released a few singles before he scored his first (and only) success. "Splackavellie", written by Jones with producer Joseph "Adonis" Carn, the track defines the title word as basically not a husband, not a boyfriend, but a "fuckboy", to be frank...

"Splackavellie" became Pressha first and only single to make Billboard magazine's pop chart, reaching the top-40 in September of 1998. The song also climbed to #14 on the R&B chart as well. Internationally, the single was a minor hit in the Netherlands at #69. Pressha's debut album, Don't Get It Twisted, only popped on to the R&B Albums list at #98.

Despite this initial success, Pressha pretty much disappeared after this hit. I'm not sure if it was label trouble, manager trouble, or what, but he never released another record under the Pressha name again. In fact, when he did reappear in 2004, he released and indie album Jody Is Back under the moniker "Mr. David", which is how he promotes himself to this day.
