Songoftheday 6/1/21 - Sometimes you picture me I'm walking too far ahead, you're calling to me I can't hear what you've said...

from the album So So Def Bass All-Stars III (1998) and Ready For The World (1999)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #6 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 15

Today's song of the day comes from R&B singer INOJ, who took her Miami Bass-style cover of Ready For The World's hit "Love You Down" into the pop top-40 in the beginning of 1998.  Her follow-up would be another uptempo dance remake of an 80's ballad, this time Cyndi Lauper's iconic "Time After Time". Her voice coos the lyrics over the shuffling frenetic bass beat, which sounds odd for fans of the original, but at least this brought the 14 year old song to a new audience...

INOJ's version of "Time After Time" did surprisingly well, climbing into the pop top ten in America in September of 1998. The song was her sole hit on Billboard magazine's R&B chart at #30, with the track selling over a half million copies. Internationally, the single climbed to #9 in Canada.

The singer would try for more success with other covers of songs like "Nine To Five" and "Ring My Bell", but "Time After Time" would be INOJ's final chart appearance.
