Songoftheday 4/2/21 - I cook your dinner I wash your clothes, baby hell no that's not the way it goes...

"It's All About Me" - Mya & Sisqo
from the album Mya (1998)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #6 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 14

Today's song of the day comes from singer/dancer Mya (Harrison), who grew up in the Washington, DC area, where she began her career with the help of her musician/singer father. Joining Interscope Records, Mya released her debut album in 1998. The first single from the record was a collaboration with Dru Hill lead singer Sisqo, who co-wrote "It's All About Me" with producer Daryl Pearson. A slow jam that bears more than a striking resemblance to Destiny's Child's "No, No, No" from the same year, it has Mya cooing seductively while Sisqo, in his first big departure from his group, provides just about all of the vocal gymnastics. Coming off Dru Hill's top-20 pop hit "We're Not Making Love No More",  his inclusion certainly helped the acceptance of the song, while Mya's dancing perked up some eyes for sure on MTV...

"It's All About Me" became Mya's first top ten pop hit in May of 1998. The song spent two weeks at #2 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart, while the remixes of the track helped it pop on to their Dance Club Play list at #29. Internationally, the single was a top-40 hit in New Zealand at #13. The Mya album, released in April of that year, got to #29 on the Billboard 200 sales tally, going on to sell over a million copies.
