Songoftheday 4/19/21 - Am I givin enough is it all it sould be, when the water gets rough will you still swim with me...

"Say It" - Voices Of Theory
from the album Voices Of Theory (1998)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #10 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 22

Today's song of the day comes from the R&B vocal group Voices Of Theory, who came together in Philadelphia in the beginning of the 1990s. James Cartagena, Mechi Cebollero, David Cordoba, Hector Ramos, and Eric Serrano had toured with Mariah Carey before signing to DJ/producer Jellybean Benitez' record label H.O.L.A.. Their first single, "Somehow", was released in 1997, and it popped on to Billboard magazine's R&B chart for a month, getting as high as #95. A year later, the quintet released their eponymous debut (and only) album. And in the spirit of similar Latin soul groups like 4PM and Nu Flavor, they found a niche on the radio with their very Boyz II Men-ish lead single "Say It". Written by Steve Morales, Raymond Basora, and Gerald McKenley, the love ballad follows the well-trod path of convincing a girl to marry him, with a melody that sounds a lot like something else I can't place yet...

"Say It" became Voices Of Theory's first pop hits, reaching the top ten in July of 1998. The song also climbed to #10 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart as well. The Voices Of Theory album managed to get to #56 on the R&B Albums chart. They will be back in this series.
