Songoftheday 2/8/21 - Sure I've been in love a time or two but in the end I still chose you, no one could ever make me feel this way...
"We're Not Making Love No More" - Dru Hill
from the album Soul Food (Original Soundtrack) (1997)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #13 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 13
Today's song of the day comes from the R&B vocal group Dru Hill, who's eponymous debut album had spun off three top-20 pop hits with "Tell Me", "In My Bed", and "Never Make A Promise", the latter reaching the top ten in the summer of 1997. Later that year, the group contributed an exclusive song to the soundtrack to the movie Soul Food starring Vanessa Williams. The result, "We're Not Making Love No More" (not to be confused with the similarly-titled Michael Bolton ballad), was written by Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds, who also produced the track with Darryl Simmons. The slow burner has Sisqo vamping all over a soured relationship track that is anchored by Babyface's mammoth melody choruses that just places itself in your brain when you're listening. It was released as the fourth single from Soul Food after Milestone's "I Care 'Bout You", Total's "What About Us", and Boyz II Men's "A Song For Mama"...
"We're Not Making Love No More" became Dru Hill's fourth top-40 pop hit in January of 1998. The song also spent a week at #2 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart. Internationally, the single was a top-40 hit in New Zealand at #33. A fifth offering to radio from the Soul Food soundtrack, Tony! Toni! Tone!'s "Boys and Girls", made it to #52 on Billboard's R&B Airplay chart, not being released as a commercial single.
