Songoftheday 12/10/20 - Sometimes I feel so alone I call your heart, but there's no one at home taking a toll on my pride...
"I Care 'Bout You" - Milestone
from the album Soul Food (Original Soundtrack) (1997)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #23 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 13
Today's song of the day comes from the soundtrack to the movie Soul Food starring Vanessa Williams. The companion record had already landed a top-40 pop hit with Total's "What About Us", and the set, on Babyface and L.A. Reid's LaFace label, followed quickly with a song from a one-off soul "supergroup" featuring Babyface himself. The track, "I Care 'Bout You", was billed to Milestone, and includes the singer/songwriter/producer along with his own brothers Melvin and Kevon Edmonds from the group After 7, along with siblings K-Ci and JoJo who had just broken off of the group Jodeci. Written and produced by Babyface, the love ballad with its star power in R&B circles gave it the push with fans and radio alike, even if it was only for this single...
"I Care 'Bout You" became the second top-40 pop hit from Soul Food in October of 1997. The song also rose to #10 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart. Internationally, the single was a top-40 hit in New Zealand at #23.
