Songoftheday 2/5/21 - I'm only pretty sure that I can't take anymore, before you take a swing I wonder what are we fighting for...

"How's It Going To Be" - Third Eye Blind
from the album Third Eye Blind (1997)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #9 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 40

Today's song of the day comes from the rock band Third Eye Blind, who had scored a top ten pop hit in America in the summer of 1997 with their former #1 rock radio hit "Semi-Charmed Life". As that song was making its mark on mainstream radio, the band promoted another album track, "Graduate", to rock stations without releasing it as a single to tide things over, and it was as moderate success too, reaching #14 on Billboard magazine's Alternative Rock chart and #28 on their Mainstream Rock format list. That fall, they released their second commercial single, "How's It Going To Be". Written by the band's lead singer Stephen Jenkins and lead guitarist Kevin Cadogan, the mid-tempo song details a dying relationship, with all the uncertainty and resignation involved, as Jenkins looks into the lonely future...

"How's It Going To Be" became Third Eye Blind's second top ten pop hit in February of 1998. The song rose to #5 on Billboard's Alternative Rock chart, while cresting at #5 as well on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format. Internationally, the single peaked at #6 in Canada, and was a top-40 hit in Iceland at #32, while in the UK it was a minor hit at #51 and their last singles chart appearance there.
