"Gangstas Make The World Go Round" - Westside Connection
from the album Bow Down (1996)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #40 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 2
Today's song of the day comes from the rap "supergroup" Westside Connection, who landed a top-40 pop hit in the fall of 1996 with "Bow Down". WC, Ice Cube, and Mack 10's next single from the record was "Gangstas Make The World Go Round". Built on a sample of the song "People Make The World Go Round" from the Stylistics which got to #25 on the pop chart in 1972, the track got enough sales (and a little airplay) to make the top-40 again...
"Gangstas Make The World Go Round" reached the American pop top-40 in April of 1997. The song also climbed to #30 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart, while getting to #10 on their Rap Singles list.
