Songoftheday 10/15/20 - Last time that we had this conversation I decided we should be friends, but now we're going 'round in circles tell me will this deja vu never end...

"Say You'll Be There" - Spice Girls
from the album Spice (1996 UK/1997 US)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #3 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 18

Today's song of the day comes from the British female vocal group Spice Girls, who conquered America in the beginning of 1997 with their #1 pop hit "Wannabe".  Their next single was the midtempo jam "Say You'll Be There", written by the group with Elliot Kennedy. Accompanied by a flashy space-age music video that had time to feature all five of the women, the undeniably hook-filled track was a natch even more than their debut...

"Say You'll Be There" became the Spice Girls' second top ten pop hit in America in May of 1997. The song also climbed to #24 on Billboard magazine's Adult Top-40 radio chart. Internationally, the single topped the charts in their native Britain (2 weeks) and Finland (1 week), and reached the top ten in France (#2), Spain (#2), Ireland (#2), Norway (#2), New Zealand (#2), Denmark (#2), Belgium (#3W/#8F), Sweden (#4), Switzerland (#4), Canada (#5), the Netherlands (#5), and Austria (#7).
