"MyBabyDaddy" - B-Rock & The Bizz
from the album Porkin' Beans and Weines (1999)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #10 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 11

Today's song of the day comes from the "Miami bass"-style hip-hop act B--Rock & The Bizz, who were formed by producer Baron Agee, or "B-Rock", from Mobile, Alabama. Assembling a comedic rap record on a looped sample of the Emotions' disco classic "Best Of My Love", with Kitty Thomas cooing childishly female vocals to be the "chorus", the lighthearted (and so wrong) look at paternity started selling like hotcakes, and urban radio airplay crossed over to the mainstream radio (most likely because of that sample)...

"MyBabyDaddy" went all the way to the top ten on Billboard's pop Hot 100 chart in May of 1997. The song also spent a week at #3 on their R&B chart as well as peaking at #2 on their Rap Singles chart. Internationally, the single went to #28 in New Zealand. However, trouble with their original label LaFace caused their debut album Porkin' Beans and Weines not to arrive until two years later on the indie Tony Mercedes label, and by then Bizz member T-Bird Maye had left and no one else gave any notice. A second album, Mamanin, came out in 2002 with even less of a reception, though it's notable as featuring a cameo from future rap star Ludacris.
