Robbed hit of the week 10/19/20 - Richard Marx's "Until I Find You Again"...
"Until I Find You Again" - Richard Marx
from the album Flesh and Bone (1997)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #42 (one week)
This week's "robbed hit" comes from pop singer/songwriter Richard Marx, whose fourth studio album Paid Vacation in 1994 had scored him two more big pop hits with "The Way You Love Me" and the top ten ballad "Now and Forever". Three years later Marx returned with his fifth effort, Flesh and Bone. The lead single was the ballad "Until I Find You Again", which fit his adult-pop wheelhouse but still was a peculiar choice for a lead single clearly meant to duplicate the success of his last top ten hit. Written and produced by the singer, it hit radio just when the army of "sensitive men" (like Michael Bolton) was waning at radio...
While "Until I Find You Again" was a big hit at "easy listening" radio, spending a week at #3 on Billboard magazine's Adult Contemporary format chart, the single stalled a couple notches below the pop top-40 in May of 1997. Internationally, the single reached #15 in Sweden. The Flesh and Bone album was his first to miss the top-40 on the Billboard 200 sales chart, stopping at #70. He would soon leave the label and mostly release independently since.
