Disco Dessert 10/8/20 - "Tangerine" from the Salsoul Orchestra...
"Tangerine" was a radio and club hit for the Salsoul Orchestra, the in-studio band for the Salsoul record label. Appearing on their self-titled debut album, the instrumental goes back to the swing era, written by Johnny Mercer and Victor Schertzinger, and most famously topped Billboard's chart in 1942 with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra. On Record World magazine's Disco File Top-20 chart, where the Salsoul Orchestra album already was on the list, peaking at #4, the single itself landed on its own on the chart at #6. "Tangerine" also made it to #18 on Billboard's pop Hot 100 chart, and #36 on their R&B list.
