Songoftheday 9/29/18 - The summer is gone I can't believe It went so fast, why do only the cold and lonely times seem to last...

"No Mistakes" - Patty Smyth
from the album Patty Smyth (1992)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #33 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 4

Today's song of the day comes from singer Patty Smyth, who had a huge pop hit in the fall of 1992 with her duet with Don Henley, "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough", from Smyth's self-titled second solo set. Her follow-up single was a midtempo rock nugget "No Mistakes". Written by Smyth with Kevin Savigar, it also featured Henley on back-up vocals, on a country-rock tinged reflection on love through difficult times...

"No Mistakes" became Patty's second and so far last solo top-40 pop hit in February of 1993. The song also scaled to #4 on Billboard's Adult Contempoary (or "easy listening") radio chart. Internationally, the song was much bigger in Canada, peaking at #3 for one week. The third single from Patty Smyth, was another bittersweet country-rock number, "I Should Be Laughing", which went to #86 in the U.S. and #64 in Canada. In 1995, Smyth recorded a song for the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie Junior; the result, "Look What Love Has Done", missed the pop chart (it "Bubbled under" the Hot 100 at #106), but hit #23 on the Adult Contemporary list and was nominated for both an Oscar and a Grammy for song from a movie.

After appearing on the VH1 show Bands Reunited, Patty got back together with her old band, Scandal, and released a couple new songs on a hits set as well as tour. She also released a solo album, Come On December, in 2015. She's been married to tennis legend John McEnroe since 1997.
