twostepcub's music chart for September 7, 2012...

It's finally Friday, so it's time for my top 100 tunes for the week. This week Ellie Goulding takes over the #1 spot, while Green Day (pictured above) jumps into the top-10. The biggest jumps this week come from singles by Cyndi Lauper, Lee Brice, and Scissor Sisters (moves of 10+ places highlighted in red), while a former big hit by the Offspring drops out. There are ten new songs on my list this week (highlighted in green), and here they are, with a little about the artists, with links to their previous hits in purple...

Taylor Swift's alleged ode to her breakup with Jake Gyllenhaal, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together", her first #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 after two trips to #2. And like one of those runners-up, "Today Was A Fairytale", it's far from a country song...

British indie-folk-rock band Mumford & Sons should have received the New Artist Grammy, but they can claim the best-selling rock album of last year, thanks to songs like "The Cave". They preview their upcoming sophomore set, Babel, with "I Will Wait".

Swedish DJ Eric Prydz topped the British charts in 2004 with the Steve Winwood-cribbing "Call On Me". He's back with another "sample" record, this time though it's more obscure, with the song "Allein Allein" by Polarkreis 18 being used for "Allein"...

Another Swedish DJ/producer, Avicii, joins his 2SC top-40 "Silhouettes" with a track featuring Lenny Kravitz, "Superlove"...

Two songs come into my chart a little late but because of the closing ceremonies of the London Olympic Games. First is the Scottish singer Emeli Sande, who started off the big show with "Read All About It Pt. 3". The first part supporting rapper Professor Green made my list last year...

French DJ/producer David Guetta follows up his "Titanium" with "I Can Only Imagine" featuring (I know, ugh) Chris Brown and rapper Lil' Wayne...

Canadian rockers Simple Plan had their biggest hit so far in 2004 with "Perfect". They are back leaving their alt-emo roots behind with reggaeton king Sean Paul helping on "Summer Paradise"...

The second Olympics-related song was a song cut from the horrible NBC coverage of the ceremonies, British indie-rock group Elbow with "One Day Like This"...

Rappers 2 Chainz and Drake are atop the US R&B chart with the former's first lead-artist hit, "No Lie". He was here before supporting Kanye West on "Mercy"...

Finally, Brazilian Alex Ferrari scores his first single on my list with the sertaneja hit, "Bara Bara Bere Bere"..

And that's a wrap. Thanks again for stopping by, and tomorrow I'll bring you another Song of the Day, Candletime, and my weekly five-part "chart sweeps" of the new music on the Billboard charts. Cheers!
