Country Sweep: September 8, 2012...

Hey guys, welcome back, it's time for part four of this week's "chart sweeps" of the latest music making way onto the Billboard magazine weekly charts. This time out it's the newest on country radio.

This week on the Country Songs chart Blake Shelton's "Over" spends a second week at #1.

The highest debut this week is by singer Thomas Rhett, who is coming off a top-20 hit with his debut single "Something To Do With My Hands", which I really liked. But for the followup, he goes with "Beer With Jesus", which irks me to no end in its seeming reliance on approved and crowdsource catchwords thrown together for a song. Oh well, it must be doing something, because it's in at #49...

Entering at #54 is a true country legend, Alan Jackson, who's racked up 26 #1 hits on the country chart, from 1991's "I'd Love You All Over Again" to 2010's "As She's Walking Away" with the Zac Brown Band. His third single from his excellent latest album, Thirty Miles West, is "You Go Your Way", and it's at #54...

...and at #57 is another favorite of mine, singer David Nail, who claimed his first #1 last year with "Let It Rain". He released a three-track acoustic EP in July, and on it is a heartfelt cover of the Adele pop classic "Someone Like You". That cover returns Nail to the chart at #57 this week..

That covers the country side of the house...check back in an hour and a half and I'll close up shop with the new dance tracks hitting the clubs and on the radio. Twang on!
