Brit Sweep: September 30, 2012...

Hey gang, it's the close of the weekend, so it's time to run through the new songs making their way onto the British sales chart, from their official chart.

The top-selling song this week in the UK is by Korean phenomenon PSY, with "Gangnam Style" for the first time.

The top debut this week is by drum and bass producer DJ Fresh, who had two consecutive #1 hits with "Louder" and "Hot Right Now". He's back at #13 with the fourth single from his latest album Nextlevelism, which also contains those two #1 hits, "The Feeling", featuring rapper RaVaughn...

Coming in at #16 is British singer Paloma Faith, who made the top-10 here earlier this year with "Picking Up The Pieces", the first single from her sophomore album Fall To Grace. Her fourth is a

remake of the INXS classic "Never Tear Us Apart", which is now seen in Britain in an ad for the John Lewis department store chain. This version actually outdoes the original, which peaked at #24 in 1988.

Taylor Swift moves up to #4 with her pop crossover hit "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together", and also enters at #30 with another preview track from her upcoming album Red, this time the countrified "Begin Again"...

Nicki Minaj jumps in at #43 with the sixth song to make the top-100 here from her Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded set, "Va Va Voom". The first single, "Starships", went to #2 and is her biggest single to date so far...

American singer Lana Del Rey saw her first two singles, "Video Games" and "Born To Die", both reach #9 on the UK chart last year. She is re-releasing her debut album Born To Die as The Paradise Collection, with seven new songs, and one of them, a cover of the Bobby Vinton classic "Blue Velvet", comes in at #60, thanks again to an advert from clothing store H&M. Oddly enough, Vinton's original failed to chart in Britain until 1990, where it went to #2.

An X Factor fan favorite, Joseph Whelan, debuts at #77 with "I Lie Lonely", which doesn't have any clip yet, so here's just the teaser (serious, guys WTF?)...

Canadian EDM artist deadmau5 is in at #81 with "Professional Griefers", featuring Gerard Way from the band My Chemical Romance. The DJ went to #12 in 2008 with "Ghosts N Stuff"....

Debuting extremely modestly at #85 is No Doubt, who went to #1 here in 1996 with "Don't Speak".  Their latest is "Settle Down"...

London folk-rockers Mumford & Sons have the biggest-selling album in the UK this week with Babel, and two of the tracks from the set are the last two entries (the first single "I Will Wait" is at #12 here). First, the title track comes in at #94...

The second at #97 is their cover of "The Boxer" featuring guitar virtuoso Jerry Douglas and the song's writer, Paul Simon, whose own version went to #6 in 1969 (it's also on Douglas' excellent Traveler album)...

That's a wrap for tonight....stay tuned tomorrow for another Song of the Day, Candletime, the second half of this week's "album sweep", and this week's "Robbed Hit". Cheers!
