Aussie Sweep: September 19, 2012...

G'day mates, it's time to check out the new singles selling down under, according to their official music charts. This week Guy Sebastian and Lupe Fiasco spend a fifth week at #1 with "Battle Scars" (by the way, the song dropped off the American charts after one week so far)...

The top entry this year is by Korean rapper/TV personality Psy, who's been everywhere this past week, with the "Macarena" of the year, "Gangnam Style". It comes on to the Australian chart at #7...

Debuting at #25 is American R&B singer/songwriter Alicia Keys with her new single, "Girl On Fire", featuring rapper Nicki Minaj. In this country her biggest showing to date is her 2005 single "No One", which went to #3; Nicki's actually done better - her "Starships" hit #2 earlier this year.

Nigerian-born singer Timomatic scores his fourth Australian top-40 hit with "Incredible" at #27. His debut single, "Set It Off", peaked at #2 last year. He's up your alley if you like Taio Cruz or Usher's dance work, and this song sounds reeeeeally like Bruno Mars' "Just The Way You Are", no?

Coming in at #52 is British hip-hop duo Rizzle Kicks, who get their second hit down under with "Down With The Trumpets", which was a top-10 hit in the UK last year. "Mama Do The Hump" peaks just a little lower at #56 before...

At #58 is rappers Kanye West, Jay-Z, and Big Sean with "Clique". Kanye has had one chart topper here, 2005's "Gold Digger"...

Australian metalcore band Parkway Drive hail from Byron Bay, New South Wales, and their new single "Dark Days" enters at #71...

The last debut this week is by Londoner Natasha Khan, who records under the moniker Bat For Lashes. Her single "Laura" comes in at #90....

That does it for this Antipodean trip. Check back tomorrow for another Song of the Day, Candletime, 7 from the 70s, and 8 from the 80s. Cheers!
