Soul Sweep: September 29, 2012...


Part three of this week's "chart sweeps" of the newest songs making their way onto the weekly music charts at Billboard magazine gets to the soul of the charts, with the latest on R&B radio.

On the R&B/HipHop radio-monitored list, Miguel's "Adorn" spends a second week at #1.

The top debut is by Houston-based rapper Slim Thug, who's biggest credit so far was a featured part on Beyonce's #3 R&B hit "Check On It" in 2005. That same year he also had a top-40 R&B hit as a lead with "I Ain't Heard Of That". He's back with the top new song at #74 with "Summertime", sharing credit with another Houston-area rapper, Z-Ro, whose top hit so far is the #62 "Top Notch" from 2008...

Even though Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco has placed two singles in the pop top-10, the biggest single he's had on the R&B chart, "Out Of My Head", made it just to #11 (and that wasn't one of the aforementioned two). "Bitch Bad", from his upcoming Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1, becomes that set's first R&B hit at #84...


504 Boy Curren$y adds to his single chart hit "Where Da Cash At" from 2006 (#62) with his latest at #85, "Jet Life". It features colleagues Big K.R.I.T., who went to #32 supporting T.I. on "I'm Flexin'", and Wiz Khalifa, whose "Black and Yellow" made it to #6...


The fourth single from Usher's latest, Lookin 4 Myself, to make the R&B list is "What Happened To U" at #89. The first, "Climax", was the singer's twelfth #1 soul hit...


Former 112 member Q (Quinnes) Parker enters at #92 with his top-30 adult R&B hit "Yes"...


Singer/actress Brandy topped the R&B list three times in the 90s, with her debut "I Wanna Be Down", the followup "Baby", and the superduet from 1998, "The Boy Is Mine". While her "Put It Down" is at #11 on the R&B list, the slow jam followup "Wildest Dreams" enters at #93...


Slice 9 pops in at #98 with "Another One", featuring rappers Future (whose "Turn On The Lights" is currently at #3) and Levi Leer...


..and closing it out at #100 is Cleveland-based rapper MGK, whose first hit, "Wild Boy" hit #49 last year. His latest, "Hold On (Shut Up)" features Young Jeezy, who had a #1 hit with "Soul Survivor" in 2005...


Meanwhile, over on the Adult R&B radio chart, Anthony Hamilton spends a third non-consecutive week at #1 with "Pray For Me"...

The highest debut belongs to singers Avant and Keke Wyatt who have appeared on the TvOne reality series R&B Divas. Avant has reached #3 before on the Adult R&B list with "When It Hurts" in 2008, while Keke paired up with American Idol Ruben Studdard on a cover of "Saturday Love" last year. They're in at #23 with "You & I"...


Wyatt's "castmate" on that show, Faith Evans, was in the runner-up spot on this chart last year supporting El Debarge on "Lay With You", and she's back at #29 with "Tears Of Joy"..


Singer Angie Stone topped the Adult R&B chart in 2007 with "Baby", and she's back at #35 with her "Backup Plan"...


The X Factor US season one winner Melanie Amaro has her first hit on this chart at #39 with "Love Me Now" (she'll also be coming up on "Dance Sweep" with a different song)...


and the final entry is another singer with her first adult R&B hit, Brooke Valentine with "Don't Wanna Be In Love" at #40..
