Brit Sweep: September 2, 2012...
Hey folks, I hope you're enjoying your weekend, and it's time for this week's "Brit Sweep", bringing you the latest singles selling in the United Kingdom this week.
The new #1 song and highest debut is by girl-group Little Mix, who are what I guess are the female version of One Direction. They came together on the eighth season of the British version of the X Factor, where they each auditioned as soloists, but like the boys the season before were put together under the mentorship of Tulisa Contostavlos. But unlike One Direction, they went on to win their season, the first group to do so. Their "coronation" single, a cover of Damien Rice's "Cannonball" raced to #1 in December of 2011. The followup, from their upcoming album and written by the group with it seems a roomful of people, "Wings" comes in at #1.

The aforementioned Tulisa is from the British hip-hop trio N-Dubz, and both she and her brother Dappy have already scored #1 singles on their own. Finally, the third member of the group, Fazer, has his first single enter the chart at #17. It's "Killer"...
American DJ/producer Steve Aoki has racked up two top-40 hits in Britain, the biggest (and latest) being "No Beef" with Dutch spinner Afrojack last year. He's back at #44 with "Beat Down", featuring Indonesian DJ Angger Dimas and Australian rapper Iggy Azalea...
Singer Rita Ora's debut album, Ora, is the new #1 full-length record in England, and it contains all three of her chart topping UK hits, "Hot Right Now" (with DJ Fresh), "R.I.P.", and "How We Do (Party)". One of the other album tracks, "Hot, Single & Sexy", enters at #54...
British band Scouting For Girls went to #1 in 2010 with a song I was so sure should have been a big hit a la "Use Somebody" in the States, "This Ain't A Love Song". That didn't quite pan out, but the band are back at #73 with the first single from their upcoming third album, The Light Between Us, "Summertime In The City"...
Coming in at #81 is the fifth single from electronica musician Labrinth's debut album Electronic Earth, which has already scored him three top-10 hits here, including the awesome #2 hit "Earthquake". His latest is "Treatment"...
London act The Noisettes have went to the runner-up spot on the British charts as well in 2009 with "Don't Upset The Rhythm (Go Baby Go)". They return at #87 with "That Girl"...
That wraps it up for tonight. Thanks so much for dropping by, and check in tomorrow for another Song of the Day, candletime, part two of this week's "Album Sweep", and the "Robbed Hit" of the week. Cheers!
