Dance Sweep: September 22, 2012...

We're now at the closing stretch of today's "chart sweeps" of the newest songs making it on to the weekly music charts at Billboard magazine. And this time it's the latest dance music in the clubs and on the radio.

On the DJ-polled Hot Dance Club Play chart, the Scissor Sisters' "Let's Have A Kiki" takes over the #1 spot, as destiny foretold (and it's coming up below here)...

The top debut here is by club legend Kristine W., who is this generation's Donna Summer but even better, with her dedication to her fans and the GLBT community. She's been rewarded with a streak of club hits that is unbeaten - 16 of her 17 previous singles have gone to #1 (the lone holdout went to #2), from 1994's "Feel What You Want" to last year's "Fade". Her latest, "Everything That I Got" at #36, is a funky, assured electro-pop jam that's looser than usual, and it definitely helps that she has the chops to pull it off. It builds up to a fun climax without clobbering you with a wall of sound, and I'm really diggin' it...(By the way her New and Number Ones album comes out on the 25th GO GET IT!)

Another icon in both the club and the GLBT community, the Pet Shop Boys have topped the club chart ten times in their career so far, from their debut hit "West End Girls" in 1986 to 2009's "Did You See Me Coming". Their new album, Elysium, just came out this past Tuesday (September 11), and it's as lush and amazing as expected, and the first single from it, "Winner", has been remixed for the dance floor, and it comes in at #38. But also check out the original video here, it's so inspiring. Wideboys do a great job at mixing the song into a joyful thumper without losing its anthemic message...

Canadian trio Audio Playground reached the top-10 here earlier in the year with their first American hit, "Famous", and they follow that up with "Emergency" at #44. It features rapper Snoop Dogg, no stranger to the club himself, with his "Sexual Seduction" topping the dance chart in 2007.  For this track, they certainly got their money's worth on the Auto-Tune rental, and if you like Taio Cruz, you'll be into this jam.

Singer/songwriter Mika was born in Lebanon, but now calls Britain his home, and he's made the top-10 on the club chart three times, almost reaching the top at #2 in 2007 with "Love Today". He returns at #46 with "Celebrate" featuring rapper/singer/producer Pharrell, who supported the Swedish House Mafia on their top-3 "One (Know Your Name)" in 2010. It's a fun, party-style hipster-friendly song that's a good lead-up to his Origin Of Love dropping in October...

And rounding it off on this chart at #50 is Paris-based electronic duo the Stereo Flow, with their first hit single "All The Things You Do" featuring British singer Shirin. It's a fun slice of progressive house that's not remarkable but quite enjoyable. In fact, it recalls the aforementioned Kristine W to me, and that ain't bad at all.

Meanwhile, over on the radio-monitored Hot Dance Airplay/Mixshow chart, Ellie Goulding remains on top for a second week with "Lights".

Coming in at #18 is American pop/rock powerhouse Maroon 5, with their latest Hot-100 top-5 hit "One More Night". They topped this tally in 2007 with "Makes Me Wonder", and while it's taken a little for the original to grow on me, this throbbing mix by Country Club Martini Crew is really bangin'...

..and at #24 is the Swedish House Mafia with their latest, "Don't You Worry Child". They were at #1 here last year with "Save The World", and this time around its more of their arena-filling power-chords with soaring vocals by John Martin...

...and over on the Global Dance Tracks chart, nobody can beat Rihanna down from the #1 spot as she spends an eighth week with "Where Have You Been"...

Both Owl City ("Fireflies") and Carly Rae Jepsen ("Call Me Maybe") have reached the top-20 on this chart before, and their collaboration "Good Time" is set to go there as well, as it debuts all the way at #23. Here, DJ Reidiculous parties is up with a mainstream mix that fits the song and it's players, and doesn't obstruct the sweet melody (if not the generic lyrics) behind the song.

And to end this, as promised is the Scissor Sisters, as their #1 US club hit comes into the Global Dance chart at #39 with "Let's Have A Kiki". Their classic "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'" made the top-3 here back in 2006, and this viral jam is so different but just as awesome.

Well that does it for today's "chart sweeps". Thanks for coming, and check back tomorrow for another Song of the Day, candletime, the first half of this week's "album sweep", and the newest in England on Brit Sweep. Cheers!
