Songoftheday 9/3/12 - Lately all my thoughts have gone to you, you know it's true...
Air Supply - "Young Love"
from the album Now And Forever (1982)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #38 (two weeks)
Weeks in the top-40: 2
Today's Song of the Day is by the Australian soft-rock group Air Supply, who just scored their seventh consecutive top-5 US pop hit in September with "Even The Nights Are Better". For the follow-up single the group went with "Young Love", written by Graham Russell (the tall one) and produced by Philadelphia native Harry Maslin, who once was the sound engineer at the Electric Factory in Philly, and helmed records by Melissa Manchester and David Bowie...
Unfortunately the single broke their streak, peaking just inside the top-40, though making the top-20 on the adult-contemporary radio chart (breaking a streak there as well). Maybe record buyers and radio were starting to tire of the similar nature of their songs, though looking back it's a really sweet ballad.
