Today's song comes from rapper Eve, who had already landed two top-40 crossover hits with "What Ya Want" and "Gotta Man" by the close of 1999. Her third offering from her debut album Let There Be Eve was "Love Is Blind", featuring singer Faith Evans, whose own last album scored a pair of top ten pop hits with "All Night Long" and "Love Like This". Written by the rapper with producer Kasseem "Swizz Beatz" Dean, the song tackles the dark but real subject of domestic abuse, and was based on the life of a friend of hers whose abuser got her pregnant as a teen then controlled and beat her. In this case, there wasn't a happy ending for either of them, as Eve made sure of (cinematically). The only thing dragging the powerful lyrics of Eve is the production from Swizz Beats, which seems like it was plonked out on a toy piano...

 

 "Love Is Blind" because Eve's third top-40 crossover hit on Billboard magazine's pop Hot 100, and Evans' eight, in February of 2000. The song just missed the top ten on both of Billboard's R&B and Rhythmic radio charts at #11, while topping their Rap Airplay list for a week. Both Eve and Faith will be back to the series.
