Songoftheday 3/6/22 - People see right through you, everyone who knows you well...

"Falls Apart (Run Away)" - Sugar Ray
from the album 14:59 (1999)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #29 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 7

Today's song comes from the rock band Sugar Ray, whose jokingly-titled sophomore album 14:59 (based on how much of their fame is left) had already spun off a pair of top ten pop hits with "Every Morning" and "Someday".  The third release from the record, "Falls Apart" (subtitled "Run Away" for the single release), was also written by the band with producer David Kahne. It's another one of those "messed up girl" songs, which wallow in her depression and need to escape but contain such out of place lines like "Sometimes I feel aroused so I cannot be down, All the time I've been on my owm". It does stay in the serious rocker stage though and Mark McGrath and the boys give it a sense of gravitas otherwise...

"Falls Apart" became the third top 40 pop hit from 14:59 in February of 2000. The single climbed to #5 on Billboard magazine's Alternative Rock Chart (where it started the previous year), while rising to #16 on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format list, spending a half-year (26 weeks) on the chart. Internationally, the single was also a top-40 hit in Canada (#15) and New Zealand (#33). Sugar Ray will be back to the series.
