Today's song comes from R&B singer Sisqó, who on a break from his vocal group Dru Hill already landed a top-40 crossover hit in the beginning of 2000 with "Got To Get It". The second single from the album would prove to be his signature song. "Thong Song", written by the singer with production team the Funktwons (Tim Kelley and Bob Robinson), was a funky ode to the skimpy underwear/sometimes swimwear that apparently has got him going. This ain't a serious song, it wasn't meant to be and its nod to Ricky Martin's "Livin' La Vida Loca", giving its writers a credit on the track, certainly gave some familiarity to the record, which far surpassed the success of the former single. The music video fulfills the promise of the title, with a bevy of scantily-clad ladies at the beach, with a cavalcade of cameos from guy friends including the rest of Dru Hill and LL Cool J...

"Thong Song" became Sisqó's second top ten pop hit (after his collab with Mya "It's All About Me") in May of 2000. The single spent two weeks at #2 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart, while topping their Rhythmic radio format list. It even made it on to the Latin Tropical Airplay (#19) and Latin Pop Airplay (#25) radio charts too. Internationally, the single topped the chart in New Zealand, and made the top ten in Australia (#2), the UK (#3), The Netherlands (#3), Denmark (#3), Norway (#3), Belgium (#5W/#15F), Ireland (#7), Sweden (#8), and Switzerland (#8), and just missed in Canada at #11. At the Grammy Awards in 2001, "Thong Song" was nominated for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, losing to D'Angelo's "Untitled", and Best R&B Song, which went to "Say My Name" by Destiny's Child. Sisqó and the album will return to the series.
