Songoftheday 11/18/20 - I fiend for all beats like girls jump for dicks, don't salt the next man keep that Lindbergh shit...

"Up Jumps Da Boogie" - Magoo and Timbaland
from the album Welcome To Our World (1997)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #12 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 15

Today's song of the day comes from the duo Magoo & Timbaland, the former being rapper Melvin Barcliff and the latter producer Tim Mosley. Hailing from Norfolk, Virginia, the friends moved to New York, where Mosley worked on music from R&B group Jodeci as well as albums from Ginuwine and Aaliyah. The pair released their own debut single "Up Jumps Da Boogie" in 1997. Written by Magoo and Timbaland along with rapper Missy Elliott, who appears on the track along with Aaliyah, the song was a no-nonsense funk jam meant to turn the party up, and nothing more.  They all appear on the music video, and let me tell you this throwdown was pioneering...

"Up Jumps Da Boogie" was the duo's first top-40 pop hit in September of 1997. The single also climbed to #4 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart, while spending two months (eight weeks) at #1 on their Rap Singles list. Their debut album, Welcome To Our World, released in November of that year (with the name order switched by then), went to #33 on the Billboard 200 sales chart, going on to sell over a million copies. However, it is one of the few big hip-hop records that is neither available to stream or buy the mp3 for (a "redone" version is on iTunes as his 2011 Can't You See)
