Songoftheday 9/19/20 - Baby, you don't know what you do to me, between me and you I feel a chemistry...

"One In A Million" - Aaliyah
from the album One In A Million (1996)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: ineligible to chart
Billboard Hot 100 Airplay peak: #25 (one week)
Weeks in the Airplay Top-40: 12

Today's song of the day comes from the late R&B singer Aaliyah, whose second album One In A Million was led off by the single "If Your Girl Only Knew", which came a notch from landing in the pop top ten in the fall of 1996. Overseas, her cover of Marvin Gaye's "Got To Give It Up" was released as a single, and reached the top-40 in the UK (#37) and New Zealand (#34). The second song from the record promoted to radio in America was the title track,  produced by Tim "Timbaland" Mosley, who wrote it with Missy Elliott. Straddling the line between smooth neo-soul and hip-hop cadences, the track was a fan favorite...

Since "One In A Million" wasn't released as a commercial single, it wasn't allowed to place on Billboard magazine's official Hot 100 pop chart in the U.S.. However, the song got enough radio love to make it on the airplay component of that tally for three months starting in March of 1997. The song spent six weeks at #1 on their R&B Airplay list as well. The remixes of the track helped it become her first and biggest hit on the Dance Club Play chart, spending two weeks at #2. Internationally, the single reached the top-40 in New Zealand (#11) and the UK (#15), the latter country having it paired on a single with "If Your Girl Only Knew".
