Songoftheday 9/12/20 - Boy I can't understand it see I never really felt like I do when I'm around you baby and I just can't explain it...
"Head Over Heels" - Allure featuring Nas
from the album Allure (1997)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #35 (four weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 5
Today's song of the day comes from the female R&B vocal group Allure, who came together in the mid-90s with schoolmates Alia Davis, Akissa Mendez, and Lalisha McClean, along with local friend Linnie Belcher. Mentored by producer Poke of the team the Trackmasters, the act got their big break by being one of the first signed act's on Mariah Carey's "vanity label" Crave. In 1997, the quartet released their debut single "Head Over Heels". Produced by Carey and the Trackmasters, who wrote the song with a generous sample of an MC Shan record that gave Marley Marl credit, "Head Over Heels" also featured a rap cameo from New York legend Nas, who just scored his first top-40 pop hit with "Street Dreams"...
"Head Over Heels" became Allure's first top-40 pop hit (and Nas' second) in March of 1997. The song also went to #17 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart. Internationally, the single went to #18 in the UK as well as in New Zealand.
Up tomorrow: Shrewd rapper declares herself.
