Robbed hit of the week 9/14/20 - Yvette Michele's "I'm Not Feeling You"...

"I'm Not Feeling You" - Yvette Michele
from the album My Dream (1997)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #44 (four weeks)

This week's "robbed hit" comes from R&B singer and rapper Yvette Michele, who hails from Brooklyn, New York. Signed to Loud Records, home to New York rap acts like the Wu-Tang Clan and Mobb Deep,  she released her debut single "EveryDay & EveryNight" in 1996. That song made the R&B top-40 in Billboard magazine at #23, while scaling to #60 on the pop Hot 100. Her second release, "I'm Not Feeling You", was written by the singer with a prominent sample of "Was It Something I Said" from gender-bending icon Sylvester, giving him and Harvey Fuqua writing credits as well. The song caught hold on urban radio, and crossed over enough on mainstream stations to give Michele her biggest hit...

While "I'm Not Feeling You" almost made the R&B top ten at #12, the song also just missed the pop Top-40, spending a month at #44 in March of 1997. The single did sell quite a bit, making the top ten on Billboard's Dance Singles Sales chart at #6, while landing a top-40 hit in the UK at #36. The My Dream album got to #46 on the R&B albums chart.

In the summer of 1997, Michele made a cameo on rapper O.C.'s single "Far From Yours", which stopped short of the R&B top-40 at #43, while getting to #81 on the Hot 100 pop list. Finally, a third single from My Dream, "DJ Keep Playin' (Get Your Music On)", scored a third top-40 R&B hit from the record at #38, while stalling at #84 on the pop Hot 100. That would be her final chart appearance, and Michele wouldn't be heard of in the music world again.
