"What Kind Of Man Would I Be" - Mint Condition
From the album Definition Of A Band (1996)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #17 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 17

Today's song of the day comes from the neo-soul group Mint Condition, whose sophomore album From The Mint Factory had spun off their second top-40 pop hit with "U Send Me Swingin'" in the spring of 1994. Two years later, lead singer Stokley, guitarist Homer O'Dell, bass player Ricky Kinchen, drummer Keri Lewis, pianist Larry Waddell, and Roger Lynch on vocoder returned with their third disc Definition Of A Band. The lead single, "What Kind Of Man Would I Be", written by Waddell, was a monogamous slow jam built to ease the ladies' ears and minds as Stokley passes up an affair...

"What Kind Of Man Would I Be" became Mint Condition's third top-40 pop hit (and biggest after debut "Breaking My Heart") in November of 1996. The song also spent a week at #2 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart. Internationally, the single was their first top-40 in the UK, peaking at #38, as well as getting to #37 in New Zealand.
