Songoftheday 7/2/20 - You think that we connect that the chemistry's correct, your words walk right through my ears presuming I like what I hear...
"Spiderwebs" - No Doubt
from the album Tragic Kingdom (1995)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: ineligible to chart
Billboard Hot 100 Airplay peak: #18 (one week)
Weeks in the Airplay Top-40: 30
Today's song of the day comes from the California pop/rock band No Doubt, who made a big splash on MTV and on the charts with their breakthrough single "Just A Girl", which hit the top-40 in the spring of 1996. The second song from the album promoted to radio was the frenetic neo-new wave track "Spiderwebs", written by the band's lead singer Gwen Stefani and bass player Tony Kanal. Produced by Matthew Wilder, the song has Gwen navigating through a litany of unworthy suitors as she tries to find happiness...
Since "Spiderwebs" wasn't released as a physical commercial single, it wasn't able to place on Billboard magazine's official Hot 100 pop chart. However it got enough mainstream radio love to spend over seven months in the top-40 of the airplay component of that chart, reaching the top 20 in October of 1996. The song went to #5 on Billboard's Alternative Rock radio chart, and popped on to their Adult Top-40 list at #29. Internationally, the single reached the top-40 in Canada (#11), The UK (#16), Iceland (#18), Sweden (#23), and New Zealand (#30).
