Songoftheday 7/13/20 - So much in love girl but your friends got you thinking and it's affecting you, what can I do, girl?
"I'm Still In Love With You" / "You Don't Have To Worry" - New Edition
from the album Home Again (1996)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #7 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 19
Today's song(s) of the day come from the Boston-based soul vocal group New Edition, who reunited in 1996 and scored their highest-charting single in the summer of 1996 with "Hit Me Off". The second single released commercially from the records contained two songs promoted to radio. "I'm Still In Love With You", a ballad written and produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis with Ralph Tresvant and Ricky Bell on lead vocals, was pushed at both pop and urban stations, and the ballad got the act their most recent top ten hit...
Meanwhile, the new jack swing of "You Don't Have To Worry", in a new remix featuring rapper Missy Elliott, also found favor at R&B stations. This time Bobby Brown takes center stage, with a little help from Tresvant...
"I'm Still In Love With You" became New Edition's fourth and most recent top ten pop hit in January of 1997. The song, along with "You Don't Have To Worry", was the group's 16th top ten R&B hit at #7. Internationally, the single went to #13 in the Netherlands, and was a minor hit in Australia at #47. A third release from Home Again, "Something About You", stiffed in the States, but was a decent British hit, peaking at #16. Lastly, the midtempo "One More Day" was a Top-40 R&B hit at #22, and got to #61 on the pop Hot 100 in America. The group toured behind the album, but more drunken antics with Bobby Brown caused him to get booted from the act and the tour yet again.
The remaining five - Tresvant, Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, and Johnny Gill - got back together again to record an album on Puff Daddy's label Bad Boy Records. That ill-fated set ended up being lost in the cracks, with lead single "Hot 2Nite" barely making the R&B top-40 at #35 while nicking the pop Hot 100 at #87. They continue to tour, sometime with Brown, but nothing from New Edition has come since then...

The Spanish-language version of "I'm Still In Love With You", "Siempre Tu", got enough sales and airplay to "bubble under" the pop Hot 100 chart at #116...
The group performed the song on SNL...
Lastly, here's New Edition (now without Brown) singing "I'm Still In Love With You" at the 1997 American Music Awards...
Up tomorrow: R&B vocal powerhouses are pretty steadfast...
