Songoftheday 7/9/20 - You treat me like I'm a princess, I'm not used to liking that....
"Head Over Feet" - Alanis Morissette
from the album Jagged Little Pill (1995)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: ineligible to chart
Billboard Hot 100 Airplay peak: #3 (six weeks)
Weeks in the Airplay Top-40: 35
Today's song of the day comes from Canadian emo songstress Alanis Morissette, whose breakthrough album Jagged Little Pill had already spun off four huge radio hits with "You Oughta Know", "Hand In My Pocket", and two top ten Hot 100 hits with "Ironic" and "You Learn". The last song from the record promoted to radio in America is "Head Over Feet". Written by Alanis with her producer, Glen Ballard, the song is a departure from the angst of most of the album, describing the feeling of finding your true "soulmate"...
Since "Head Over Feet" wasn't released as a commercial physical "single" in the U.S., it was unable to place on Billboard magazine's official pop Hot 100 chart. However, it was massive on the radio, reaching the top-3 on the airplay component of that tally in October of 1996. The single topped Billboard magazine's Adult Top-40 format chart for three weeks, her first to do so, while getting to #27 on the older-skewing Adult Contemporary radio list. It also made to the Alternative Rock airplay chart at #25. Internationally, the single topped the Canadian charts for an incredible eight weeks, as well as going to #1 in Iceland, while reaching the top ten in the UK (#7) and Belgium (#10F). It also made the top-40 in Ireland (#11), Australia (#12), the Netherlands (#24), and New Zealand (#27).
