Robbed hit of the week 2/10/20: Immature's "Feel The Funk"

"Feel The Funk" - Immature
from the albums Dangerous Minds (Original Soundtrack) & We Got It (1995)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #46

This week's "robbed hit" comes from the teenage R&B "boyband" Immature, whose album Playtyme Is Over scored a pair of pop hits with "Constantly" and the top-5 "Never Lie". As they were recording their next album We Got It, the trio of Marques Houston, Jerome Jones, and Kelton Kessee contributed a song to the soundtrack of the movie Dangerous Minds starring Michelle Pfeiffer. "Feel The Funk", written by Skip Scarborough with producer Chris Stokes, was released as the second single from the soundtrack, behind the massive hit "Gangsta's Paradise" from Coolio featuring LV, and with a #1 album and that momentum from this young and upcoming act, this was expected to be a big hit as well...

Although the single climbed to #15 on Billboard's R&B chart, "Feel The Funk" stopped short of the pop top-40 by a half-dozen notches in October of 1995. Internationally, the single came in closer in New Zealand, stopping at #41. Nevertheless, the song was included in their We Got It album, which would go on to score another pair of top-40 pop hits anyway.
