Disco Dessert 2/14/20 - "How High The Moon" by Gloria Gaynor...
"How High The Moon" was a club hit for singer and "survivor" Gloria Gaynor. Appearing on her album Experience Gloria Gaynor, the song is a cover of the 1940 Broadway tune written by Nancy Hamilton and Morgan Lewis for Two For The Show. Even though the production would make you think it's a rip-off of her classic "I Will Survive", this was released three years before that #1 hit. On Record World magazine's Disco File Top-20 chart, the Experience album was listed as a single entry, with "Casanova Brown", "(If You Want It) Do It Yourself", and "How High The Moon" listed as key tracks. It topped the list for one week in 1975, one of her five trips to the top of the dance chart. "How High The Moon" also reached the top-40 in the UK at #33. Gloria just picked up a Grammy for Best Gospel Album this year.
