Today's song of the day comes from female rapper Da Brat, whose debut album Funkdafied had already landed a top ten pop hit with title track "Funkdafied" followed by a top-40 follow-up in "Fa All Y'all" at the end of 1994. A cut from the movie Bad Boys starring Will Smith, "Da B Side" with the Notorious B.I.G., also had enough radio love to make the R&B airplay chart at #66 despite not being released as a single. The true third release from the album would be "Give It 2 You", written by Da Brat (as Shawntae Harris) and producer Jermaine Dupri. The song ended up landing a third top-40 hit bigger than the second, helped by its laid back style, almost like a rap "ballad" in the G-funk style...
"Give It 2 You" landed Da Brat her third top-40 pop hit in May of 1995. The song also climbed to #11 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart, while climbing to #3 on their Rap Singles list.
