from the album Cracked Rear View (1994)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #9 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 25
Today's song of the day comes from the rock band Hootie & The Blowfish, who landed their first top ten pop hit in the beginning of 1995 with their debut single "Hold My Hand". The group's next single would be the ballad "Let Her Cry", written by the band about a girl who was emotionally deep but still flighty...
"Let Her Cry" became the band's second top ten pop hit in July of 1995. The song reached both the Mainstream Rock (#9) and Alternative/Modern Rock (#34) radio charts in Billboard magazine, and even crossed over to #7 on their Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio format list. Internationally, the single reached the top ten in Canada (#2) and Australia (#4), while making the top 40 in New Zealand (#19). At the Grammy awards in 1996 "Let Her Cry" won the band an award for Best Pop Duo/group Performance.
