Songoftheday 10/11/19 - If you wanna be a rock and roll star, be happy and stay just as you are...

"Can't You See" - Total with Notorious B.I.G.
from the albums Total and New Jersey Drive (Original Soundtrack) (both 1995)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #13 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 14

Today's song of the day comes from the female R&B vocal group Total, who came together in Plainfield, New Jersey, as back-up singer on the Bad Boy label. Kima, Keisha, and Pam were first heard by the masses singing the chorus on the single "Juicy" from rapper the Notorious B.I.G. in the fall of 1994. Biggie Smalls returned the favor when it came time for the group to record the lead single to their self-titled debut album, "Can't You See". Featuring a verse from the up and coming rap star, the song was also featured in the movie New Jersey Drive starring Sharron Corley and a then young Donald Faison of Scrubs. With a plethora of remixes with or without B.I.G., the track caught on quick and scoring the trio their first success...

"Can't You See" became Total's first top-40 pop hit in June of 1995. The song also spent two weeks at #3 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart. Internationally, the single just missed the top-40 in the UK (#43) and New Zealand (#41).
