Songoftheday 10/13/19 - Understand the things I say, don't turn away from me 'cause I spent half my life out there...

"Ode To My Family" - The Cranberries
from the album No Need To Argue (1994)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: ineligible to chart
Billboard Hot 100 Airplay peak: #39 (one week)
Weeks in the Airplay Top-40: 2

Today's song of the day comes from the Irish alternative rock band the Cranberries, who had landed a top-40 hit on Billboard's pop airplay chart with the first promoted song from their second album No Need To Argue, "Zombie". The second song promoted to radio in America was also not released commercially as a single like "Zombie", and as such also unable to place on the magazine's official pop Hot 100 chart. "Ode To My Family", writtewn by the band's lead singer Delores O'Riordan and guitarist, was a sweet tribute to the life they had before the fame, and pop radio ate it up...

"Ode To My Family" became the second song from No Need To Argue to reach the top-40 on Billboard magazine's Hot 100 Airplay chart in April of 1995. The song also climbed to #11 on their Modern Rock radio format chart as well. Internationally, the single topped the chart in Iceland, and reached the top ten in France (#4), Australia (#5), and New Zealand (#8). It also got lucky in Ireland (#16), Canada (#16), Belgium (#18), the Netherlands (#19), and Canada (#25),the UK (#26), and Germany (#29), making the top-40.

While in Europe they were given "I Can't Be With You" as the third single which rose to the top-30 in Ireland (#21), the UK (#23), France (#24), New Zealand (#25), and Australia (#30), America was give the song "Ridiculous Thoughts", which went to #14 on the Modern Rock chart, and as the fourth release internationally got to #20 in the UK and #23 in Ireland.
