Songoftheday 3/19/19 - When I first met you I knew that life would never be the same...

"Because Of Love" - Janet Jackson
from the album janet. (1993)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #10 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 16

Today's song of the day is from Janet Jackson, whose janet. album had already scored a trio of top ten pop hits on the Hot 100 in America with "If" and two #1 turns in "Again" and "That's The Way Love Goes" (another track, "Where Are You Now", also made the top-40 airplay chart). In the fall of 1993, the house-music throwdown "Throb" was promoted to clubs, where it spent a week at #2 on Billboard magazine's Dance Club Play chart, and got enough mainstream radio airplay to make it to #66 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart. The fourth physical single released from the record would be the bubbly dance-pop of "Because Of Love". Written by Janet with producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, the chunky new jack swing rhythm section provided the base for Janet's ethereal vocal to glide over with the love-song trope lyrics. The music video takes Jackson and her dancers around the world on her tour...

"Because Of Love" became the fourth top ten pop hit from janet. in March of 1994. The song climbed to #9 on the R&B chart in Billboard magazine, and also crossed over to land at #32 on their Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio format tally. The remixes, done with help from Frankie Knuckles and David Morales, helped the track climb to #4 on the Dance Club Play list as well. Internationally, the single also peaked at #10 in Canada, and reached the top-40 in the UK (#19), New Zealand (#23), Australia (#25), and the Netherlands (#39).
