Songoftheday 3/30/19 - Your mind's telling me no, but your body's tellin' me yes...

"Bump N' Grind" - R. Kelly
from the album 12 Play (1993)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #1 (four weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 23

Today's song of the day comes from the 90s R&B star that now has become one of the most controversial people in music today, R. Kelly, who had led off his sophomore album 12 Play (his first without backup act Public Announcement) with the salacious single "Sex Me", which reached the top 20 on the pop chart and top ten on the R&B chart at the end of 1993. Also during that time his remake of the Spinners' soul classic "Sadie" from the album had gotten enough airplay to make #56 on the R&B Airplay chart and spend four months on the list.  But it was the second proper release from the album that would become the singer/songwriter/producer's biggest hit of his career. "Bump N' Grind" basically finished off where "Sex Me" began, in the bedroom...

"Bump N' Grind" became R. Kelly's first #1 pop hit in American in April of 1994, and only pop solo charttopper. On the R&B chart in Billboard magazine, it set a record at the time, spending twelve weeks on top of the list. Internationally, the record went to #8 in the UK, and was a top-40 hit in Ireland at #26.

And Kelly appearing on Arsenio Hall...

In 2014, British dance music act Waze & Odyssey released a rework of "Bump & Grind" with R. Kelly's vocals, and went to #3 on the British singles chart, and making the top-40 in Belgium (#24) and Australia (#39)...

Lastly, here's Kelly live at one of the awards shows in 1995...
