from the album Hummin' Comin' At Cha (1993)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #8 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 14

"Understanding" became Xscape's second top ten pop hit in February of 1994. The song spent two weeks at #1 on the R&B chart in Billboard magazine. Internationally, the single reached the top-40 in New Zealand at #24. Around the same time "Understanding" was gaining its biggest numbers, album track "If My Living In Vain" got enough airplay on urban stations to place at #47 on their R&B airplay chart. The third physical single put out, "Love On My Mind", climbed to #16 on the R&B list, while nearly missing the pop top-40 at #46. Finally, "Tonight" served as the fourth release, and while it missed the pop Hot 100, it managed to climb to #59 on the R&B list.
