Songoftheday 3/20/19 - People There's really nothing to it, let your mind rest my friend and do it...
"Groove Thang" - Zhané
from the album Pronounced Jah-Nay (1994)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #17 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 14
Today's song of the day comes from the R&B/dance duo Zhané, who had landed a top ten pop/R&B/dance hit on their first try with the smooth groove of "Hey Mr. DJ" in the fall of 1993. The next offering from Renee Neufville and Jean Norris-Taylor would be another mid-tempo jam, "Groove Thang". Laid on a sample of Patrice Rushen's "Haven't You Heard", the neo-lite-disco track was written by Neufville, Sheree Brown, and K-Gee from Naughty By Nature...
"Groove Thang" became Zhané's second top-40 pop hit in March of 1994. The song also was the duo's highest-charting success on the R&B chart in Billboard magazine, spending a week at #2. The remixes on the CD single, including the house music jams from Maurice Joshua, helped the track climb to #13 on the Dance Club Play list as well. Internationally, the track hit the top ten New Zealand (#7), while making the top-40 in Australia (#17) and the UK (#34), and almost reaching that level in France (#42).
