Songoftheday 3/2/19 - Without you baby I feel worthless, I'm livin on the edge...

"Cry For You" - Jodeci
from the album Diary Of A Mad Band (1993)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #15 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 17

Today's song of the day comes from the R&B vocal group Jodeci, who after setting the urban radiowaves on fire with their debut album Forever My Lady, with four top ten R&B hits, landed the biggest pop hit of their career with their "unplugged" cover of Stevie Wonder's "Lately" in the summer of 1993. The brother pairs of K-Ci and JoJo Hailey and Donald and Dalvin DeGrate returned later that year with the first single from their upcoming sophomore album, "Cry For You". Written by Donald (as "Devante Swing"), the song was a emotive plea for getting their woman back after she'd been "wronged" by them...

"Cry For You" became Jodeci's third top-40 pop hit in February of 1994. The song spent a whole month (four weeks) at #1 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart, tying "Lately" for their longest stay at the top (as well as their last). Internationally, the single was their first success in the UK, climbing to #20 on the British chart.
