Songoftheday 6/14/16 - Every move you made before was never meant for real, over my naivety is this how I should feel?

"Don't Tell Me Lies" - Breathe
from the album All That Jazz (1988)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #10 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 10

Today's song of the day is by the British "sophisti-pop" trio Breathe, whose debut album All That Jazz had scored them a pair of top-10 hits in the U.S. with "Hands To Heaven" and "How Can I Fall". The third single released in the States was the one they actually put out first in their native UK, "Don't Tell Me Lies". Written by lead singer David Glasper and guitarist/keyboardist Marcus Lillington, and with a bouncier pace much like a Tory version of Mr. Mister, the song originally was only a minor hit in Britain at #77...

"Don't Tell Me Lies" continued their American success, becoming their third straight top-10 pop hit in March of 1989. It would also be their last to reach that level. The single also climbed to #5 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary (or 'easy listening') radio chart. Back in the UK, with the success of the group overseas, the single was re-released and went to #45 this time out.

Up tomorrow: The biggest (fake) act in pop music history. For real, woman.
