Pop Sweep: June 11, 2016...

Now that it's storming outside, it's time to start playing catch-up with this week's "music sweeps", sampling the notable songs making their way on to the various charts in Billboard magazine. As usual, I'll start on the pop side of things, then later on to the newest in rock, R&B, country, and dance...

On the "big" chart, Billboard's Hot 100, which combines tallies of internet streaming (like Spotify and YouTube), radio airplay from all formats, and sales (like iTunes and Amazon MP3), Drake holds tight at #1 for a third non-consecutive week with "One Dance"...

Although it managed to slip in for a week on the release date of her massive album 25, Adele truly makes an appearance on the chart as "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)", the third radio single from the album, re-enters the list up at #26. The video for the track debuted during the Billboard Music Awards which aired during the tracking period. Grade: B

The actual top debut song of the week is one of three from the finalists of The Voice. Traditionalist country singer Adam Wakefield lands on the chart for a second week in a row, this time with an original song, "Lonesome, Broken and Blue". On Blake Shelton's "team", Adam came in second this season. Grade: B-

The song that Rihanna performed on the Billboard Music Awards, the ballad "Love On The Brain", garners enough muscle to make the big chart at #83. Two other songs from her Anti album are back to back in the top-10 with "Needed Me" at #9 and "Work" at #10 (with her non-album collab with Calvin Harris "This Is What You Came For" at #11), while "Kiss It Better" drops to #91. Grade: C

Country duo Dan + Shay return with the first single from their second album, "From The Ground Up". The song is currently at #22 on the Country Airplay chart. Grade: C-

The third-place finalist on The Voice, Hannah Huston (on "Team Pharrell") lands at #94 with her interesting take on the Police's "Every Breath You Take".

Indie-pop singer/songwriter Kiiara (aka Illinois native Kiara Saulters) makes her debut at #96 with "Gold". The single, which claims my "Pop Pick of the Week", has already reached the top-10 in Australia and Belgium. Grade: B+

Reggaeton artist Nicky Jam comes in at #98 with "Hasta El Amanecer" ("Until The Sunrise"). His last his, "El Perdon", was one of the top 100 hits of last year even though it went no higher that #56 on the chart. Grade: B-

The winner of this season's The Voice, Alisan Porter (from "Team Christina Aguilera"), surprisingly has the lowest of the three debuts from the show with her original track "Down That Road". Grade: C+

And now on to the pop radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Top-40 radio panel,  Fifth Harmony are on top for a second week with "Work From Home", while the aforementioned "Send My Love" from Adele jumps in at #34...

Last week's "Pop Pick", "Wherever I Go" from OneRepublic, makes this format chart at #36. In 2014 they went to #1 on this chart with "Counting Stars".

Joe Jonas' dance-rock band DNCE takes their second single "Toothbrush" to the list at #37. Their first, "Cake By The Ocean", made it to #2. Grade: D+

The aforementioned Kiiara track slips in at #40

Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format, "Cake By The Ocean" from DNCE is at #1 for a second week...

Reggae-rock band Magic! slips in at #40 with "Lay You Down Easy". They topped the chart with their breakthrough single "Rude".

Lastly, on the Adult Contemporary, or "easy listening" chart, Justin Bieber is on top for a fifth week with "Love Yourself", while OneRepublic's "Wherever I Go" is in at #24...

I'll be back with the latest on rock radio...
