Soul Sweep: June 25, 2016...






We're at the "hump" of this week's 'music sweeps', sampling the notable songs making their way on to the charts in Billboard magazine. This time out I'm serving up the latest hits on R&B radio...

On their main R&B/Hip Hop Airplay chart,  Drake is on top for a second week with "One Dance"...

DJ Khaled leaps on to the chart up at #25 with "For Free", which claims my "Soul Pick of the Week". Grade: C-

Usher returns to the chart at #48 with "No Limit", from his upcoming Flawed album. Grade: D+



The fourth single from Jeremih's Late Nights With album, "Pass Dat", moves in at #49. The second, "Planes", went all the way to #1 here. Grade: D-


Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult R&B radio panel, Maxwell's "Lake By The Ocean" stays at #1 for a second week, and there are no new songs on the list...

Lastly, on the Rhythmic format, whose stations include more dance-pop music in their playlists, "One Dance" reigns for a fifth week, while the aforementioned DJ Khaled track jumps in at #24...

Fifth Harmony, whose former #1 on this chart, "Work From Home", is still doing well at #8, also enter at #27 with "All In My Head". It interpolates the Mad Cobra single "Flex". Grade: C-


Newcomer Niykee Heaton, who has gathered a following on YouTube, comes in at #37 with "Bad Intentions". Grade: D+


Rapper YG slips in at #39 with "Why Ya Always Hatin" featuring Drake and Kamaiyah. Grade: D
