Rock Sweep: June 11, 2016...






Round two of this week's 'music sweeps' is up, with the latest hits on rock radio as monitored by Billboard magazine...

On their main Rock Airplay chart, the Red Hot Chili Peppers remain at #1 for a third week with "Dark Necessities"...

Alternative rock band Band Of Horses, who used to be just "Horses", are back at #44 throwing their "Casual Party". The song also jumps into the top-10 on the Triple-A format. Grade: C+


New Zealander sibling duo Broods land at #45 with "Free", which also sits at #29 on the Alternative list, and take my "Rock Pick of the Week". Grade: B+


Neo-metal band Pop Evil come in at #47 with "Take It All", which is up to #14 on the Mainstream Rock chart. Grade: C+


Adele slips in at #50 with her pop track "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)". Grade: B


And now on to the rock radio format charts...

On the harder-edged Mainstream Rock radio panel, Volbeat reigns for a fourth week with "The Devil's Bleeding Crown"...

Ohio-based metalcore band Beartooth take the title track to their new Aggressive album to #38. Their last single, "In Between", reached #20 here. Grade: C+


Another hardcore act, Thrice, from California, return at #39 with "Black Honey". Ten years ago they climbed to #24 with "Image Of The Invisible". Grade: B-


Meanwhile, on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart, the Lumineers score their second #1 hit with "Ophelia"...

British trip-hop/rock band Glass Animals preview their upcoming How To Be A Human Being with "Life Itself" at #36. Last year they went to #19 with "Gooey". Grade: B+


Nothing But Thieves, also from the UK, topped the Alternative chart with "Trip Switch", and now follow it up with "Wake Up Call" at #39. Grade: B


Electropop act PVRIS pops in at #40 with "You & I". They are not French, but rather from Massachussetts.


Lastly, on the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") format, The Record Company sticks on top for a second week with "Off The Ground"...

Last week's "Rock Pick", the epic "Up&Up" from Coldplay, reaches this format at #27. Grade: B+
